It made me think that I have a remotely vague version of this using Temporal.

I have a http endpoint where I dump whatever to, it writes to temporal, then a temporal worker will persist it to postgres and do whatever with it.

Obviously not the same use case, but I use temporal kind of like a buffer.

I couldn't find a way to see the size of a #restic snapshot. Seems odd, but not a big deal I suppose. I can restic ls and that lets me know what has been backed up, even though I don't know the size.

The pro of all this, even though there is chaos, I thought enough ahead to notify myself if I'm not seeing the cloud function executing (I write to my db when it runs). And by notify I don't mean a push notification, I have a sql query that dumps to a web page that I load in an iframe in obsidian (which I use every day) with data warnings. I'll document more on this later.

Well after a reboot now the VMs are working... odd but I guess that'll work!

I wanted to play with #proxmox for the first time and install #homeassistant. No luck; black screen for HASS. The VM won't fire up - I was going through this tutorial.

Will need to figure out whats up.

If I do care to get this working, I'd like to take it further with IaC mentioned here.

I'm playing with Metabase and it seems awesome. The paid features aren't bugging me a whole lot for personal use. I think I want to use it at the lease to explore my disc golf data vs doing it all manual in #astrojs with manual sql queries or with #sqlmesh.

The publishing option seems really powerful, and simple. It brings the interactivity I want.

I may play with Apache Superset but we shall see, the UX of Metbase is fantastic.

Here are my settings that I prefer. Notice that the empty string is needed to search through all the files in your vault looking for "scheduled" date.

I also added my personal Google calendar and my work calendar, super nice seeing all in one: work, personal, obsidian tasks.

#temporal solves another use case for me: I wanted a way to put my computer to sleep via my phone.

I have my Next.js web app starting the workflow and a GoLang worker running on the machine and listening to the respective queue to put it to sleep.

I didn't want to have the machine or the worker already offline, come online, and then get put right back to sleep via a pending workflow. Or maybe I accidentally put it to sleep a few times via the web app.

The solve is using workflow execution timeout along with limiting maximum attempts to one solves this! If no worker completes the workflow within a minute it times out and won't get executed. I think this is an awesome solve for the potential issues above.

I printscreen a lot and I've been using the #moonlander keyboard without it for too long. I finally saw how to add it here. It is called SysReq.

Since I use #audiobookshelf mainly for podcasts I never noticed bookmarks when listening to audiobooks. I wish it was for podcasts too, but I'm glad its there for audiobooks.

I was needing to start a #temporal workflow written in Golang from Typescript (NextJS). I saw this or this but was concerned I would need duplicate workflow definitions across languages... which wasn't a correct thought.

I then saw this beautiful solution that only needs the name of the workflow to start it, worked like a charm 👌

Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to add a tag to multiple notes in #obsidian 🤷 I've tried a few plugins to no avail. I didn't have enough notes to warrant a script to do this, so I hand jammed.

When needing to deploy #lk (GO binary) I was doing the following:

1. Git commit


2. Git tag & push


3. ssh to my server


4. Turn off systemd service and run a Powershell script (that pulled from Github releases and unzipped the binary)

This seems a bit like overkill for personal projects / homelab.

In 907000f I updated my makefile to build and scp the binary to my server.

Currently I have to ssh and manually turn off the service, but I'll add that to the makefile in time.

Goes to show simple commands like scp that have been around for decades are obviously useful.

Wikipedia does say that scp is depracated for rsync; that is fair. But I'm KISS.

I'm such a hypocrite 😅 I was a little frustrated that I couldn't find a RSS feed for Turso but my own website doesn't have one... 🤷

I do have creating one on my to do list.

I saw an alternative note taking app, not that I was looking: Trilium.

It really had me considering trying it out from Obsidian even though I have no quarrels with Obsidian, other than paying for Sync, which I'm happy to.

After I switched my domain nameservers to Cloudflare I noticed Chrome not resolving my domain.

Then, after incorrectly thinking I needed a redirect (that would be a nice to have, not the issue), I realized I needed a DNS record.

Look at that, Cloudflare even recommends you add one. The other screenshot shows it good to go.

Not quite #chatgpt but Warp terminal + AI just made this so easy for me to count how many markdown files in a directory.

It could be simplified for sure, but staying in the terminal and running the commands it gave me easily and safely; fantastic.

#til that in Obsidian you can just embed a note in another... I've been creating daily files (using rollover daily todos) that would copy the dataview queries into each note.

I'm a huge fan of Obsidian as my primary note taking and productivity app.

You could use Neovim: sudo apt install neovim

The folks at charm_ do make fantastic CLI tools, namely glow. This gives a semi similar experience to Neovim but tailored to markdown; beautiful.

Citrix Workspace app is garbage on Linux. I've tried it on Ubuntu and Pop OS.

If you do install it, there seems to be authentication issues.

I allowed my website: https://live.lkat.io/ to be accessed without Cloudflare login. The Cloudflare policy needed to be like the image below. I switched to Nextauth to control accessible pages because:

• I don't want 2 websites - for example a dynamic admin site I need to log in vs a static generated public site (the issue there is I want to show data, not just markdown)


• I couldn't figure out a way for Cloudflare to lock down certain routes - plus, with NextJS, I imagine there are issues with client side routing as well


• I want to keep things simple by having one website

I was also able to lock down that only my email could log in.

I recently was thinking about an easier way to get access to my Udisc scorecards CSV; which is only available via the mobile app.

I started looking into tailscale - especially taildrop. It works via sharing from Android to my linux server!

Although, the command needs ran on the linux side: sudo tailscale file get .. This seems to block when there are no pending files. I'm not sure how long "pending" files live out there either or how long this command will wait for files to be sent. I'm not sure if I should run this every x minutes or if that is a bad idea. Not sure the most efficient way.

Why tailscale? From what I can tell you need a 3rd party app on your mobile phone to share to. I can't download the CSV to my phone downloads either. And you can't share to Chrome/website or an S3 bucket.

So tailscale is a 3rd party app that seems to work for now until I find something easier. I'll have to get the file on the server, either via some kind of eventing or polling and process them...

(Oh yeah, don't forget to update: sudo apt update tailscale)

AT&T has been my dad's cell phone provider forever. We decided that he was paying too much and decided to move him over to Google Fi with me. He's going from around \$70 for just calls and messaging to \$40 for unlimited everything.

He has an older Moto g7 Play Android phone. Long story short we couldn't unlock it even though we were eligible. Spent an hour or two on support with AT&T.

Turns out the issue was the Unlock app doesn't support Android 9. This Reddit post comment was the fix.

After installing the Lenovo application, I reset the phone, it installed the latest and greatest Android 10, I updated the Unlock app via the Play Store, and low and behold it unlocked and we could go forward migrating his number over. #howto #dad

I've owned a GoPro Hero 5 Black for a long time, I use it sparingly. I recently had the idea to make a timelapse of us setting up our camp on our annual Kayak/Camp trip: #todo

The frustrating part is I don't know when it dies so we can miss a lot of footage.

I did a little searching and saw that this article says: just turn the beep noise to high. That way when the GoPro turns off from low battery, you actually can hear it. Simple. Easy.

I'll have to follow up on how well it works in the future.

I somehow was using an old version of go for my lk cli and goreleaser was complaining about some error in GitHub actions. After updating Go it runs pretty fast in GH Actions, about 1m 30s. I wonder if running again if caching will make it faster 💪

Adding code syntax highlighting to Next.JS is insanely simple with bright.

I started with this StackOverflow then did another Google search to find it.

It took 20 days to get my wife's and my passport when we paid for expedited processing. Not too bad. It's weird, the plastic used in the passport seems way more durable than my ID.

I think I'll redo my static website from Quartz to AstroJS and not use NextJS to not reinvent the wheel. My plan is to move my public content outside of Obsidian to decouple my static site content from the static site generators.

Sometimes Dapper's behaivor when your querying for one value can act a little unexpectedly. This turned me onto this - needing to coalesce when your SQL query doesn't return anything. Watched the movie Damsel) - 2024. I'm a fan of dragons the one on here was pretty realistic. From the type of fire to the wind it produces.

Didn't have the craziest plot but it took a turn I really enjoyed. I do think Sean Connery in Dragonheart as the dragon's voice is still the best but this one was not too shabby.
